HEY YOU KNOW… there was actually a documentary on recently about why all the states in america have the borders they have. My husband watched it while I DIED OF BOREDOM IN A CORNER actually no I didn’t it was quite interesting.

England is more wiggly because the borders are older and usually based on rivers/streams/viking hidey-holes.

correctumundo! Political borders are straight, natural borders are more organic! If you look at political maps of areas like north America, where the borders are defined entirely by state and federal law (same thing in Australia!) and then look at England, which has a history of trading hands from the English to the French and back again, you can see that the natural borders created more organic boundary. /rolls
